Changing Settings

What is the Auto Start / Stop feature on the Z2?2024-07-23T12:33:13+00:00

The Z2 is equipped with an Auto Start / Stop feature. This feature will start the treatment automatically when the mask is placed on the face and you start to breathe. It will stop the treatment after the mask has been removed. To restart the treatment, place the mask back on your face and start to breathe through the mask. The Z2’s manufactured before June 2024 were shipped with this setting turned on. After June 2024, the feature was turned off

NOTE: The Auto Start / Stop feature will stop the therapy if a large air leak is detected between the Z2 outlet and the mask. This may also happen at times when the mask is not being worn properly. This common condition should be resolved once all connections are secure, the mask is properly worn, and the Start/ Stop Button has been pushed or you start breathing into the mask.

NOTE: The Auto Start / Stop feature may not work with the use of a full face mask due to its design. In this case you will need to press the Start/Stop Button to start the therapy.

You can disable the Auto Start/ Stop Feature by following these steps: press and hold the Up Arrow Button and Down Arrow Button at the same time until the Z-Breathe setting flashes. Release the buttons. Then press and hold the Up Arrow Button and Down Arrow Button at the same time again until AOFF-ON flashes. Release both buttons and press the Down Arrow Button to change to AOFF-OFF. Press and hold down the Middle Power Button to save the setting.

To enable the feature, repeat the steps above, but press the Up Arrow Button to change to AOFF-ON. Then press and hold down the Middle Power Button to save the setting.

The Z2 Auto is shutting off while I am asleep. Why is this happening?2024-11-18T18:20:22+00:00

If your Z2 is shutting off in the middle of the night, it may be caused by the Auto Start/Stop feature misinterpreting a leak or your mask slipping off your face. It should turn back on by breathing into the mask. If not, press the power button on the Z2 to restart the feature.

If you continue to have issues, you can disable the Auto Start / Stop Feature.  When you purchase and receive your Z2 it is defaulted to have Auto Start/Stop enabled.

To disable Auto Start/Stop

  • Press and hold the Up Arrow Button and Down Arrow Button at the same time until the Z-Breathe setting flashes.
  • Release the buttons.
  • Then press and hold the Up Arrow Button and Down Arrow Button at the same time again until AOFF-ON
  • Release both buttons and press the Down Arrow Button once to select “AOFF-OFF”.

  • Verify that the screen is now flashing AOFF-OFF. If not, repeat the process.
  • To enable the feature, repeat the steps above, but press the Up Arrow Button once to change to Auto Start/Stop, then hold both the up and down arrow buttons until you see the word ACCEPT.
What do I do if I am having trouble exhaling against the pressure?2024-07-18T15:30:17+00:00

Z-Breathe is a proprietary algorithm engineered in the Z2 to smooth out the breathing cycle while enjoying the benefits of CPAP treatment. Typically users experience pressure swings while breathing on a CPAP device. Pressure swings occur as a spike in pressure during exhalation and a drop in pressure during inhalation. Z-Breathe is designed to minimize the impact of spikes and drops while keeping the pressure constant, thereby delivering more comfortable therapy.

Pressure swings can vary between users due to lung capacity and other factors. For this reason we have created 3 levels of Z-Breathe to accommodate individual users’ preferences:

— 1 offers mild pressure swing relief

— 2 is the default setting and offers moderate pressure swing relief

— 3 is the most aggressive setting for pressure swing relief

To change the Z-Breathe setting on your device, start with the unit in standby mode (reading 0.0 for the pressure). Simultaneously hold down the UP and DOWN arrow buttons until APAP or CPAP-2 is flashing.  Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the setting and hold down the MIDDLE power button until you see the word ACCEPT on your screen. The unit will then return to standby mode.

If it does not, or if you accidentally hit “no” when prompted, swipe left at the main screen of the Nitelog app (that shows your Z1/Z2 screen) to access the settings menu. You can manually adjust the date and time on this page.

Fault/Reminder Codes

What does REMINDER on my LCD screen mean?2024-07-18T17:59:05+00:00

The word REMINDER indicates there is an excessive air leak somewhere. If you have not put your mask on, put the mask on your face and start breathing. If it is happening while you have your mask on your face, please disconnect all parts to the Z1/Z2 including your mask and tubing (battery from the PowerShell, PowerShell from the machine, and unplug it from the wall). Reassemble the parts to the Z1/Z2.

REMINDER will only appear on the Z2 if you have turned off the Auto Start/Stop function. Otherwise the Z2 will stop when your mask is removed.

What does an Error 18.8 mean?2024-07-18T17:34:46+00:00

When you see 18.8 on your Z1 or Z2 screen, it is part of the normal start up sequence and should go away when the device is ready in stand by mode and showing 0.0.

If it does not go away, it could indicate that there is a defect with the display panel, and will need to be returned through the provider you purchased your machine from.

Please contact us at customerservice@smallCPAP.com or call 855-436-8729 and we will advise on what steps to take.

What does a Fault 66 mean?2024-07-18T17:25:28+00:00

A Fault 66 indicates your machine needs to be reprogrammed or there is a flow sensor error. Please contact us at customerservice@smallCPAP.com or call 855-436-8729 to send your device in for service.

What does a Fault 33 or 21 mean?2024-11-18T18:23:47+00:00

If you have a Z1 showing a Fault 33 or 21 it means that the internal battery has stopped working and can no longer save data in its memory. Please be aware that the life span on all batteries is limited. Most likely the Z1 is outside of the warranty period. If the manufacture date, located on the back of the unit under the serial number is after 2015-03, then your unit is  repairable. If the device was manufactured before 2015-03, it can no longer be repaired, as improvements to the design after that date make the old parts incompatible with the newer parts.

Please contact us at 855-436-8724 about replacing or repairing your device.

What does a Fail 1 code mean?2024-06-18T20:05:46+00:00

The Fail 1 code means that you are hitting the power button while the motor is still running. It will happen when you hit the middle button repeatedly.

Why is my pressure spiking up when I use my Z1 or Z2?2024-07-18T22:20:34+00:00

The most common cause of a pressure increasing, beyond what is necessary, is a leak in the system/mask. It may be a leak in the connections to the mask, or the hose.  Please check to make sure these connections fit tightly.

Another reason is an excessive leak at the mask.  Please make sure you have a proper seal between the mask and your face.

Check the connection of the tube adapter and the outlet tube (the rubber piece where the tube adapter connects to the machine). If the tube adapter is not properly seated in the outlet tube, the pressure sensor may not be getting the information it needs to regulate the pressure. Also check to make sure your outlet tube is not torn. If it is torn, the device will need to be returned to be repaired.

The last reason could be the Z1/Z2 may be sensing an obstruction, which reads as an apnea, and thus increasing the pressure.  This could be caused by congestion, or a mask system that has very low flow rate. If you have a mask with very low flow rate, such as some of the very small nasal pillow masks, you may want to try a mask with less restriction such as a nasal mask.  If none of the above are successful, please contact us at customerservice@smallCPAP.com or call 855-436-8729.

What size tubing can be used with the Z1/Z2?2024-07-18T22:07:15+00:00

The tubing comes in two different lengths — 4 feet and 6 feet slim style — and is 15 mm in diameter. You can also use standard tubing with the Z1/Z2, which is 19-22 mm diameter.

What is the SoClean and how does it work with my Z1/Z22024-07-18T22:01:53+00:00

The manufacturer has not tested the SoClean for use with the Z1 or Z2, so cannot recommend the use of this product for cleaning.

The dim light is on a timer and should turn off after a few moments. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the timer on the backlight of the LCD screen.

The rubbery gasket (or outlet tube) that the tube adapter goes into looks like it is torn. Can this be repaired?2024-07-18T20:20:57+00:00

The device must be returned to replace the silicone outlet tube. Please contact us at customerservice@smallCPAP.com or call 855-436-8729 to send your device in for repair.

The minimum voltage you will need to run your Z1 or Z2 device is 14.4 volts.

Can a CPAP machine go through airport security?2024-07-18T19:46:27+00:00

Yes, although you may need to explain to the TSA agent what you are carrying. In the back of the Z1 or Z2 User Guide is a letter that you can carry with you to show the FAA Compliance.

FAA Compliance

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) Final Rule, “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Air Travel” (73 FR 27614 which updates Title 14 CFR Part 382), effective May 13, 2009 provides important requirements for the accommodation of passengers with respiratory assistive devices (Ventilators, Respirators and CPAP machines).

In line with these requirements, respiratory assistive devices may be used onboard an aircraft, without further testing by the carrier, provided they have been tested for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) in accordance with the current version of RTCA/DO-160, Section 21, Category M.

Breas Medical has successfully completed testing for the Z2 CPAP System. The Z2 CPAP System complies with RTCA/DO-160, Section 21, Category M and can be considered FAA compliant.

Some airlines may require advance notification before travel, and devices may need to be operated by battery. Breas Medical recommends that customers check with their airline.

* Z2 wireless connectivity must be in the off (airplane mode) position similar to any other mobile device to maintain compliance.

What is the Nitelog® mobile app?2024-07-03T18:00:16+00:00

Nitelog is a free mobile app (available for iOS and Android devices) that syncs your sleep data via Bluetooth to your mobile device and then offers multiple methods for you to analyze your data. I have a prescription for CPAP at a fixed pressure. Can I buy a Z2 Auto?2024-07-03T17:58:50+00:00

In order for us to ship a Z2 Auto set in APAP mode, we must have a prescription on file for an APAP device. If you have already been prescribed CPAP at a fixed pressure setting, then all you need is for your doctor to write a new prescription with the pressure range settings that are required to program the Z2 Auto in APAP mode. You doctor will need to know that the full pressure range of the Z2 Auto is from 4 to 20 cmH2O. So the minimum pressure will be at least 4 and the maximum will be at most 20.

How can I find out if I have a prescription for auto-cpap (‘apap’)?2024-07-03T17:57:51+00:00

Look at your prescription. If your prescription has a pressure range, such as 7- 13 cm H2O, then you already have a prescription for APAP. If it consists of a single number, such as 10 cm H2O, it is a fixed pressure CPAP prescription.

What is the difference between the Z2 Auto™ and Z2™ CPAP?2024-07-22T20:38:21+00:00

A fixed pressure CPAP device provides a constant therapeutic pressure. The prescription is written as a single pressure such as 12 cmH2O.

An Auto adjusting CPAP provides a variable therapeutic pressure throughout the resting period. The prescription for it is written as a range of pressures such as 4-20 cmH20. The therapy will start at the lowest set pressure and then increase as it senses resistance.

The Z2 CPAP is no longer available in the US. Only the Z2 Auto is available for sale which can be set either in CPAP or APAP mode according to the prescription.

Purchase Questions

Will a BIPAP prescription work for a CPAP machine?2024-06-21T17:07:14+00:00
