FAQs About Prescriptions

What is the difference between the Z2 Auto™ and Z2™ CPAP?

The Z2 CPAP is a fixed pressure CPAP which delivers the same pressure at all times. A patient is prescribed a single pressure setting– like 8 cmH2O– and that is the pressure that the machine delivers at all times.

The Z2 Auto, on the other hand, is programmed using a pressure range, such as 4-20 cmH2O. The machine starts out at the lowest pressure and automatically increases the pressure as it senses an apnea occurring. After correcting the apnea, the machine adjusts back down to the lower pressure.

The Z2 Auto can be programmed in Auto (APAP) mode and in fixed pressure (CPAP) mode. The change in mode can only be made by a healthcare provider.

How can I find out if I have a prescription for auto-cpap (‘apap’)?

Look at your prescription. If your prescription has a pressure range, such as 7- 13 cm H2O, then you already have a prescription for APAP. If it consists of a single number, such as 10 cm H2O, it is a fixed pressure CPAP prescription.

I have a prescription for CPAP at a fixed pressure. Can I buy a Z2 Auto?

In order for us to ship a Z2 Auto set in APAP mode, we must have a prescription on file for an APAP device. If you have already been prescribed CPAP at a fixed pressure setting, then all you need is for your doctor to write a new prescription with the pressure range settings that are required to program the Z2 Auto in APAP mode. You doctor will need to know that the full pressure range of the Z2 Auto is from 4 to 20 cmH2O. So the minimum pressure will be at least 4 and the maximum will be at most 20.
